Deposits & no-show protection in Booksy
Booksy calls this “No-Show Protection”: either deposits taken at booking or a card on file for cancellation fees, set per service.
Turn on deposits
- Go to Business Settings → Payments & Checkout → No-Show Protection (mobile: Profile → Settings).
- Open the Deposits tab and select +Add rules. A rule is a set of services with the same deposit.
- Set the percentage or fixed amount clients prepay.
- Click Apply to services, tick the services and click Select, then Save.
- The deposit is taken off the total at checkout; if the client cancels or doesn’t show, you keep what was prepaid (Booksy help, deposits vs fees).
Card on file instead (no upfront payment)
- In the same No-Show Protection settings choose Cancellation Fees.
- Clients see your cancellation fee policy and must put a card on file; the booking is confirmed once the card is verified.
- You can apply it to specific services only (Booksy help).
Charging a no-show
Mark the appointment as a No-Show, then charge or waive the fee (Booksy help). To charge automatically, turn on Charge Cancellation Fees automatically: fees for appointments marked No-Show are charged at the end of each business day. Booksy notes Booksy Biz mobile app users can’t turn automatic charges off (Booksy help).

Questions owners ask
What do I need before Booksy takes deposits?
Mobile Payments enabled; deposits start at $5.00 and can be set per service (Booksy help).
Can Booksy charge no-show fees automatically?
Yes, with “Charge Cancellation Fees automatically” on. Mark the no-show straight away; fees are charged at the end of each business day (Booksy help).
Do deposits actually reduce no-shows?
Salon software companies each report fewer no-shows after deposits or card-on-file fees (E10: Phorest, 2021 (vendor data, no published method); E11: Kitomba, 2024 (vendor data, no published method); E13: Square, 2024 (vendor data, no published method)). Strong · 3+ sources Direction only: none of those reports is a controlled study and the size of the effect varies, so we don’t quote a percentage. Reminders have stronger evidence: set those up first.
Will clients accept a no-show fee or deposit?
Early evidence only: one 2024 online poll of 1,001 adults in Canada (Research Co.) found 53% think a no-show fee at a barber or hair salon is justified, and 4% had paid one. It is one poll, in Canada, about attitudes. It is not a no-show rate and doesn’t show that fees cut no-shows. Early estimate · limited data
